From Face - to - Face to Cyber Mode: Life-Long Learning in Counseling for All

Although numerous studies have explored the availability of online counseling, studies on how the intervention is implemented are almost non-existent. The paper reports a qualitative study on the dynamic of cybercounseling process using e-mail mode. Seven qualified counselors and 67 clients volunteered to participate in the study. Data was collected using focus group and individual interviews with participating counselors, 280 e-mail interactions, counselor's journals, and memos. Document analysis method was used to identify themes. Using Nvivo program, data analysis produced five major themes or domains identified as, ⅰ) Cybercounseling process ⅱ) Cybercounseling skills ,ⅲ) Cybercounseling approach, ⅳ) Cybercounseling ethics and, ⅴ) Cybercounseling limitations. Although the findings support the usefulness of cybercounseling modality, more studies are recommended to address the issue of the quality and cybercounseling relationship with the security of cyber counseling communication.
