MAGIC2D has been modified to include an implicit particle-in-cell (PIC) pusher for increased time steps and stability in beam-plasma simulations. The adjustable damping implicit update method of Friedman [LLNL, 2005] allows selectable attenuation of modes in a plasma. The particle update method and steps for validation within an ancillary 1D code and MAGIC2D are described. Successful implementation is evidenced by agreement with the original reference in both 1D and MAGIC for electrons in a potential well, by electric and magnetic field-dominated tests, and by agreement with the original explicit treatment in the electron energy gained in a space-charge-limited field-effect diode.
