The support effect of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the performance of CO tolerant electrocatalysts for polymer electrode fuel cell (PEFC) was studied by preparing identical Pt-Ru catalyst particles in a liquid phase and then attaching them on CNTs with different diameter (15-100 nm) and specific surface area. The PtRu catalysts supported on a thinner multi-walled CNT with the diameter of 15 nm shows higher CO tolerance performance in the hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR). It is thus considered that the CO tolerance of Pt-Ru electrocatalyst is significantly dependent on the kind of CNTs surface.
