Vertical plastic drain boards are extensively used for landrnreclamation of soft ground in Korea. A field test site wasrnconstructed to evaluate the performance of vertical drains forrnsoft ground improvement. The plastic board drains withrndifferent types and spaces were installed in this test site. The keyrnobjectives of the study are the development of specificrninformation regarding the subsurface displacement of plasticrndrain boards with depth, and discharge capacity of plastic drainrnboard installed at soft ground site. Field test works are beingrnconducted for three years.rnThe ground close by plastic board drains installed was excavatedrnfor the test pit under 5m from surface by excavator to investigaternthe subsurface displacement of plastic drain boards and tornsample the pieces of plastic board drains for the laboratory drainrntest.rnThe characteristics of subsurface displacement of drain boardrnhave been measured in excavated test pit. The engineeringrncharacteristics such as tensile strength of board and filter,rnelongation of filter, and discharge capacities of drain boardrnsampled in test pit have been determined in laboratory test.rnIn this paper, the in-situ displacement of drain boards installedrnin soft clay and the discharge capacity of drain boards obtainedrnat test pit are presented. These results can be used effectively forrnprediction of the displacement of drain board installed in softrnground under embankment, and design of discharge capacityrnand life of drain board with time elapsed from the installation.
