The testing device is used to test the tooth root load capacity of toothed wheels (1). The testing device has a pulsator jaw (2), a contact surface (16) of which contacts a tooth flank (4) of one tooth (5) of the toothed wheel (1). The toothed wheel (1) is seated on a shaft (18), the ends of which are accommodated in a holder. The shaft (18) is angled to the horizontal such that the shaft (18) adopts an oblique position. The contact surface (16) of the pulsator jaw (2) is not angled, and therefore no axial force components occur at the contact surface during the testing procedure. The axial forces occurring at the shaft (18) can be supported without problem.
