Events of the last decade have shown the importance of climate change in retention of water quality. Several climate change models suggest that there will be increases in tropical cyclone intensity in a warmer world and rainfall generated by tropical cyclones, Successive severe events have resulted in droughts and floods in various parts of Australia. These climatic variations are consistent with the various models of climate change which predict increased severity of weather conditions associated with the rising temperature of the oceans and consequently increased cyclonic activity in both the Pacific and Indian oceans. The overall decadal predictions by the Australian Meteorological Office are that eastern Australia will become drier and hotter. That does not exclude the probability that coupled with these conditions there will be periods of intense rainfall coupled to the cyclones.
