This paper describes how the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Inspectability (RAMI) Program was developed from the probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) results and how the PRA will help resolve plant safety issues in near realtime for a first of its kind Nuclear Waste Treatment Facility in the USA. The PRA as well is a first of its kind because it uses the Hazards Analysis (HAZOP) results, Severity Level Analysis (Design Basis Event Analysis) results and standard nuclear PRA Techniques to estimate the facilities risk profile. The RAMI analysis will allow for a RAMI program to ensure that such equipment is maintained in a fashion that is suitable for its importance through System, Structure or Component (SSC), testing, surveillances, replacement intervals and allowed outage time. The PRA which is based on a Microsoft EXCEL multifaceted macro driven quantification process can be used to determine the plant risk profile on a near realtime basis. Companion papers describes how a hazards database can be constructed in a way that facilitates its use in providing the information basis for a PRA and how a PRA can be developed from a facilities Hazards Analysis, Severity Level Analysis (Design Basis Event Analysis) and standard nuclear PRA Techniques.
