In this paper the finite travelling effect of earthaquake ground motion between the support points of a cable-stayed bridge is investigated by random vibration and deterministic methods. The random vibration analysis is performed by a spectral analysis approach and a response spectrum method. The results obtained by random vibration and deterministic methods are compared for Erzincan earthquake acceleration record in 1992 in Turkey. The effect of different soil conditions on the dynamic behaviour of the bridge are investigated by using power spectral density shapes of the corresponding ground accelerations. Comparison of the results indicated that the response spectrum method provide generally larger response values than those of the spectral analysis approach.
