EFFORTS TO IMPROVE THE INSERVICE INSPECTION TECHNOLOGY IN UKRAINE AND RUSSIA

The U.S. Department of Energy is supporting a multinational effort to improve the operational safety of Soviet-designed reactors. In May 1996, Ukraine and Russia requested support in improving inservice inspection technology used to detect structural degradation during the operating lifetime of a reactor. The inservice inspection projects for Ukraine and Russia target three areas: improvement in equipment used to conduct inservice inspection; technology transfer to improve inservice inspection techniques; and improving management systems for training and certification of inservice inspection personnel.
