Statistical distribution of normal hearing threshold in low-frequency region

The statistical distribution of normal hearing thresholds for pure tones in low-frequency region was estimated as a function of frequency, employing a similar procedure in an earlier work [Kurakata et al., Acoustical Science and Technology, 26(5), 440-446 (2005)]. First, literature data of threshold measurement at low frequencies were collected as many as possible. Second, standard deviations and percentiles of hearing-threshold distribution were calculated under the assumption of normality. In this calculation, the collected measurement data were combined to enhance the estimation accuracy. These results illustrate the profile of our auditory sensitivity at low frequencies more accurately and would be useful for evaluating low-frequency noises because they account for individual differences.
