Several control policies of quarter-car 2 degree-offreedomrnsemiactive system, namely skyhook, groundhookrnand hybrid controls are presented. Their ride comfort,rnsuspension displacement and road-holding performancesrnare analyzed and compared with passive system. Thernanalysis covers both transient and steady state responsesrnin time domain and transfer function in frequencyrndomain. The results show that the hybrid control policyrnyields better comfort than a passive suspension, withoutrnreducing the road-holding quality or increasing thernsuspension displacement for typical passenger cars. Thernhybrid control policy is also shown to be a betterrncompromise between comfort, road-holding andrnsuspension displacement than the skyhook andrngroundhook control policies.
