Research on Fuel Flow Measurement Based on Micro Pressure Difference

The closed-loop control of fuel supply for MTE ( micro turbine engine ) requires precise fuel flow measurement which leads to small pressure loss. A measuring method based on the detection of micro pressure difference is proposed. The measuring device is composed of pressure difference sensor, cylindrical containers, and metering section. The structure of metering section is of two kinds: tube structure and orifice plate structure. For tube structure, fluid flow is linear with pressure difference. For orifice plate structure, fluid flow is linear with the square root of pressure difference. The measuring principles, structure design of the two kinds of metering section are put forward. And the advantages and disadvantages of them are discussed as well. At last, the calibration tests of the two kinds of measuring device are carried out. The test results show that the measuring method is fit for fuel flow measurement of MTE startup process.
