Recently, the frequency applied to electronic devices has become higher to handle the growing volumes of data with the evolution of information technology. And the demand for the printed wiring boards (PWBs) for high-speed and high-frequency applications has been constantly increasing to cope with the high-speed transmission of the large-volume data to serve pleasant IT network surroundings. Therefore, the base material for PWBs used in these fields is required to have the good dielectric characteristics (lower dielectric constant Dk and dissipation factor Df). Furthermore, for the application to much higher multilayer PWBs, these materials are required to have such excellent properties as high heat resistance, high insulation reliability and excellent through-hole connection reliability. In such situation, we have developed new low transmission loss and Halogen-free material “Light Wave” MCL-LW-900G/910G. The materials are designing our original thermosetting resin system to achieve both high-frequency performance and good reliability. The “Light Wave” showed the same level of low dissipation factor (Df) as the PTFE laminate. Especially, the calculated Df value of LW-910G using HVLP foil was lower than the PTFE laminate. And the material is also characterized by high Tg, low thermal expansion, high heat resistance, and good CAF property. In addition, this material has achieved flame retardancy as UL94V-0 by halogen-free resin system. Therefore, the “Light Wave” is suitable for PWBs application for various high speed and high frequency uses like the over 20 Gbps/link transmission network platforms, such as high-end server, router, switch, measuring equipment, super computer, RF module, and antenna.
