This paper investigates the relation between corporate growth opportunities and executive compensation. Using a sample of Chinese listed firms from the period 2002 to 2008, the results show that firms with more growth opportunities pay a higher level of compensation to their top management than firms with fewer growth opportunities. It indicates that the boards of directors respond to, and promote the growth opportunities through the executive compensation plans.
