This research investigates the morphological evolution of diamond films in combustion synthesis to understand the nucleation and growth mechanisms of the diamond phase. Diamond films with various morphologies are synthesized from an oxyacetylene flame on a molybdenum substrate under atmospheric conditions. The films are studied using scanning electron microscopy, and characterized by n-Raman spectroscopy at different height levels of a film cross-section. The nucleation and growth mechanisms of the diamond phase are discussed.
