Single layer, thin film photovoltaic devices comprised of conjugated polymers have low energy conversion efficiencies due to poor charge separation. The dissociation of charges can be improved by incorporating CdSe nanocrystals into polymers to form a blend with high interfacial area. Although charge separation is enhanced over polymer-only devices, the trapping of electrons in the "dead-ends" of the nanocrystal network formed in the polymer results in poor electron transport. In this work, we improve the aggregation of CdSe in the polymenr in order to reduce the number of dead-end traps.
