Market is demanding for more and more efficient systems especially in renewable energy and UPSrnfields. The use of three-level neutral-point clamped (NPC) topology in such applications makes it possiblernto reach improvements in terms of efficiency, performance and cost, as well as an optimization ofrnharmonic distortion and overall equipment size. The STMicroelectronics’ latest MOSFET technologyrnintroduction provides a new and more efficient approach for this topology. A detailed comparison betweenrnsuch new approach and standard solutions based on an IGBT and MOSFET combination isrnprovided in a 3 kVA three-level neutral-point clamped inverter.
