AN OVERVIEW ON THE SYSTEM PACKAGING OF THE CRAY SV2 SUPERCOMPUTER

This document provides a high-level overview of the system packaging of the CRAY~(TM) SV2 supercomputer, which will be introduced in the near future. This supercomputer represents a modernization of the CRAY~(TM) architecture and a convergence of the vector machines with highly scalable, shared-memory multiprocessor machines. This document will start with a brief introduction on the development path of Cray's supercomputers, followed by a overview of the CRAY SV2 supercomputer and the innovations that enabled the packaging technology to meet the architectural demands of Cray's next generation supercomputer. The packaging of the SV2 supercomputer will then be described, starting with the module level and progress through to the system level, and will include power, cooling, and system control attributes.
