Tire/pavement interaction noise studies have shown that there are measurable noise levelrndifferences among roadway pavement types. As pavement noise studies progress, federal noisernpolicy is being examined for potential changes. The Federal Highway Administration TrafficrnNoise Model (FHWA TNM)1,2 Pavement Effects Implementation Study was initiated to helprndetermine how to incorporate a broad range of pavement effects in the FHWA TNM. There arernseveral possible options for implementing the effects, including adjusting the tire/pavementrnsource noise level. The current paper focuses on using On-Board Sound Intensity (OBSI) data,rnwhere an initial study was performed to determine if making adjustments just for therntire/pavement source level, based on comparisons of OBSI data for various pavement types, canrnbe reasonably implemented. Results for the initial investigations are presented.
