摘要

Children who have little or no verbal communication and are not presently using any augmentative/alternative method of communication have a great deal of difficulty exploring, interacting and participating in their world of learning. Best practices would suggest that these children would receive optimum educational opportunities if their needs were addressed by a team, in an intensive communication based curriculum presented in a special education / general education collaborative classroom model supported with assistive technologies. This presentation will provide participants with an overview of the design/development process utilized to create a program to serve the needs of children who use augmentative/ alternative communication strategies and assistive technology in the public education environment. Essential components of this program can be replicated in other environments.
