The possible existence of a metastable or stable system of more than 3 quarks bound inside a single bag has been the subject of considerable theoretical investigation. Ordinary nuclear matter, consisting of u and d quarks bound into individual three-quark nucleons, has a lower energy per baryon number than the same number of u and d quarks collected into a single bag.Theoretical claculations of E/A, using the MIT bag model with reasonable bag model parameters, have shown that inclusion of strange quarks in the multiquark system leads to stability or metastability of the system (1,3).
