Almost every venue and person using multiplernwireless microphones in the United States will need tornreconfigure their systems before July 13, 2020, or sooner inrnmost areas, to comply with new federal regulations andrnavoid interference. Since the definition of wirelessrnmicrophones includes in-ear monitors, intercom systems,rnand interruptible fold back ("IFB") systems, more devicesrnwill be impacted by the new federal regulations than mostrnpeople realize. FCC decisions concerning the incentivernauction and the subsequent repacking of the TV band willrnsignificantly impact wireless microphones. Wirelessrnmicrophone owners and operators should prepare forrnchanges, including: the future UHF band plan, operation inrnthe forthcoming duplex gap and guard band, new rules onrnco-channel operation with TV broadcast, and use ofrnalternate bands outside of TV-band spectrum that are nowrnavailable to wireless microphones.
