Battery powered ships - Economic and greener

Electrification with Li-ion batteries has been a global trend for years across different sectors, driven by decreasing battery prices and increasing energy density; now it is the maritime sector's turn. Increasingly, fuel costs are a large part of ships' operating expenses and thereby competitiveness. Studies show that hybrid ships with energy storage in large batteries and optimised power control can achieve significant reductions in fuel consumption, maintenance, and environmental pollution.
