Common Hull Auxiliary Multi-mission Platform (CHAMP) Design Methodology

Goal: Evaluate the Mission Design Space of performing five missions from one platform that is rapidly reconfigurable using previously established ranges of mission characteristics. Method: Use Navy-developed automated bin-packing approach coupled with a network theory-like commonality calculation to define the mission design space. This method enabled a Set-based Design analysis of the CHAMP Design Space; millions of possible cross-mission combinations are available that would have otherwise taken months to calculate.
