Solitary waves transformations are investigated by a forced variable-coefficient extended Korteweg-de Vries equation. This equation serves as a model to describe a moving disturbance in a stratified ocean consisting layered fluids. Two transition zones are considered in the numerical simulations, and are represented by changing the sign of quadratic nonlinear term twice. For negative cubic nonlinearity, no solitary wave will be generated. For positive cubic nonlinearity, a well-developed solitary waves can be protected from change of polarities or destruction if the cubic nonlinearity is sufficiently strong.
