Detection of chlorotetracyline resistant microorganisms in environmental samples using PCR and culture methods

Dispersion of manure on fields is a common practice in Germany. Antibiotics belonging to the tetracycline family are often found in manure due to their excretion after application in livestock. Together with the antibiotics - and as an effect of their use in stock breeding - microorganisms that are resistant to tetracyclines are spread in the environment.
