Process or practice: elements of an ethnographic orientation toprocess models

The argument I wish to develop in this paper is that althoughncomputer supported cooperative work is many things to many people, itncontains a number of distinct perspectives itself which are notnstraightforwardly recruited to the process cause (Bannon, 1994). Indeednmany of the assertions and assumptions which are seen as unproblematicnby process perspectives may be challenged by some of the approachesnwithin CSCW. In particular I wish to explore the ethnographicnorientation which has become popular among some CSCW workers
