Graphics Knowledge Analysis in the Faculty of Liberal Arts

We determined Liberal Arts students' knowledge on spatial materials in the Faculty of Arts, at Seisen University. Research was constructed in 2 parts. Subjects initially undertook the Mental Cutting Test (MCT). The second part was a knowledge test of graphics and mathematics. This test was divided into 6 sub-tests.① Name these objects,② Name part of the object, ③ Describe a method to calculate the area of a circle, ④Name the figure, ⑤ Name an object that is made from developed view, and ⑥ Calculate the mass of the object We analyzed the knowledge test results and also determined if any relationship between the MCT and knowledge test results existed. The knowledge test results were interesting. Some subjects scored very low on the MCT, however they achieved moderate scores in the knowledge test Some subjects successfully named the primitive object, but scored low on the MCT. Conversely, some subjects incorrectly named the primitive object and achieved an average MCT score. We will discuss these test results further and examine the relationship between the knowledge test and MCT. The low scores obtained suggest changes are required in the graphics curriculum at the high school level.
