Utilization of ground as a heat source has been proved a very promising technology for several applications in residential, commercial and agricultural sectors. Ground-source heat pump (GSHP) systems have extensively grown in Europe and U. S. A. in recent two decades and appear significant advances since energy saving and environmental protection becomes one of the major interest of modern societies. The design of a ground heat exchanger for GSHP systems requires, at a minimum, the knowledge of the thermal properties of the ground, in particular, of the thermal conductivity. In the case of vertical borehole heat exchangers (BHE) these properties vary with depth and are strongly dependent on the geology and hydrogeology of the subsurface environment.
