Evaluation of Disaster Information-Sharing System in Various Situations

In large-scale disasters such as earthquakes, the sharing of information without relying on existing communication infrastructures is required. We previously proposed a disaster information-sharing system that uses portable storage devices as communication media to share information in such situations, including an efficient content selection method to distribute disaster information to all nodes. However, in our previous simulations we used only one network and simple models, and real disaster characteristics such as the influence of geographical requirements was insufficiently considered—especially the influence of transportation frequency, which is assumed to be symmetric between each node. Therefore, in this paper, we evaluate the performance of the proposed system in various situations. Through simulations using several networks and a unique model, we clarify how heterogeneity in the number of nodes, node density, and transportation frequency of portable storage devices affects the performance of the proposed system.
