The research work employed a modern optimization method recognized as whale optimization algorithm (WOA) to tune the gain factors of fuzzy integrated PI (FIPI) controller in an interconnected system consisting of two areas. Area 1 in the scrutinized system consists of thermal and hydro generating units, whereas area 2 comprises thermal and wind generating units. To investigate the behavior of the system, an abrupt disturbance of 1.5% is employed to area 1, and the controller constraints are tuned with the help of WOA considering proper objective function (ITAE). To confirm the robustness of the suggested controller, the load disturbance is applied in both the areas as an extension of case studies. Throughout the analysis, the dominance nature of FIPI controller is proved over conventional controllers like PIT) controller.
