Anatomy learning system on human skeleton using Leap Motion Controller

Anatomy is a field of biology in medical education that studies the structured parts of living organism, especially human body. This subject is considered to be very complex and thus not so easy to be learnt. Advanced technology should be utilized to help students studying this subject in more effective way. In this paper, we proposed an interactive 3-dimensional anatomy navigation system supported by Leap Motion Controller (LMC). LMC can detect motion of fingers and hand gesture and use it as controlling input. In this way, structures of organs of human body can be explored interactively and expanded for better understanding and experiences. In this study, we developed interactive application for skeleton system and tested it with 30 medical students and lecturers at our medical faculty. We found that user satisfaction was at the level of 4.07 (Likert scale of 5), interaction and gesture agreement at the level of 4.13 (Likert Scale of 5). Our result indicates that the anatomy learning system using LMC was successfully developed and it is suitable and acceptable as a supportive tool in anatomy learning system.
