Targeting Critical Regions of HIV-1 Genome for Intervention of HIV- 1 replication

The critical regions of HIV-1 LTR were targeted by sequence specific polyamide nucleic acids (PNAs) conjugated with cell penetrating peptide (CPP). The anti-HIV-1 PNA-CPP conjugates are rapidly taken up by cells and inhibit HIV-1 replication. These conjugates also displayed potent virucidal activity rendering HIV-1 virions noninfectious upon brief exposure.
