Recently, Raman imaging of individual cells has become a useful technique providing spectral information at very reasonable signal quality. Apparent advantages over conventional staining procedures are the possibility to image subcellular structures without introducing any labels or dyes. Depending on the optical setup, Raman microscopy can be employed after cell fixation or with living cells. One intriguing application of Raman microscopy is to follow the uptake of drug delivery systems in vitro in cell cultures. Here, we present the application of Raman microscopy to monitor the uptake of micelles based on polyethyleneglycolphosphatidyl ethanolamine (PEG-PE) conjugates.
