TIGER-NET – ENABLING AN EARTH OBSERVATION CAPACITY FOR INTEGRATED WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN AFRICA

As part of the TIGER initiative [1] the TIGER-NETrnproject aims to support the assessment and monitoringrnof water resources from watershed to transboundaryrnbasin level delivering indispensable information forrnIntegrated Water Resource Management in Africarnthrough:rn1. Development of an open-source Water Observationrnand Information Systems (WOIS) for monitoring,rnassessing and inventorying water resources in a costeffectivernmanner;rn2. Capacity building and training of African waterrnauthorities and technical centers to fully exploit thernincreasing observation capacity offered by currentrnand upcoming generations of satellites, including thernSentinel missions.rnDedicated application case studies have been developedrnand demonstrated covering all EO products required byrnand developed with the participating African waterrnauthorities for their water resource management tasks,rnsuch as water reservoir inventory, water qualityrnmonitoring, water demand planning as well as floodrnforecasting and monitoring.
