The LA Metro Crenshaw/LAX Corridor project is 8 miles of light rail which includes (3) underground cut and cover stations and one mile of twin tunnels. Support of Excavation (SOE) for the underground stations included various methods, such as drilled soldier piles, Cutter Soil Mix (CSM) wall, and jet grout. Tunnels were excavated by an earth pressure balance (EPB) tunnel boring machine (TBM). Precast sixsegment universal rings with 5.47-m (18.83-ft) inside diameter were erected after each 1.52-m (5-ft) of TBM advance. Efforts made by Owner and Design-built team turns the project into a big success, although there were many of challenges during construction.
