Research and innovation in the health sector, to find new ways for treatment and management of health ailments, has always been an all-time high priority. Children’s health assumes a significantly higher priority. With the development of new technologies, the interest in children’s health is increasing globally to enable the creation of generations capable of building and developing their societies. It is very well known that some children experience delays in physical or intellectual growth. Detecting and addressing growth issues in children at an earlier stage of the condition can be challenging, and the treatment and management in some cases may pose tremendous problems as the resulting treatments can sometimes adversely impact the health of the child. Health professionals no longer rely on outdated ways of diagnosis, such as those based on weight and height, to monitor the progress of children growth and health. The research introduces a smart automated service based on machine learning techniques to measure a child’s physical growth based on the growth of the hand bones. The research includes an algorithm for processing and analyzing X-ray images of the hand. The proposed algorithm will assist in automatically classifying images of children, alleviating the workload on orthopedic doctors in medical centers. Real tests have been conducted on numerous X-ray images to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
