Wind turbines have been part of a rapid development during the last years. The first 5 MW units are projected Lubricants have a specific importance, they warrant the required operating times on one hand and they provide the specific requirements regarding the different lubricating points on the other. Standard lubricants as described in the various international standards do not fulfil these requirements any longer and special lubricants are needed. The paper gives an overview about the different lubricants points and the specific requirements. Further tests methods introduced to differentiate the performance of the lubricants available on the market.
