In-vehicle Game-based Cognitive Function Training System for Elderly Drivers

摘要

It has been found that age-related decline of cognitive ability is one of risk factors for traffic accidents among the elderly. Therefore, the present study introduced a new in-vehicle game-based cognitive function training system. The system was designed by cognitive evaluation theory, gamification, Hiraoka's six interface design indices for driver-assistance systems and fuben-eki principle. It uses a trail making game to train and test driver's visual attention ability, then transformed the score to the vehicle's speed limit. Two special points are included in the system. First, it could maintain and improve driver's cognitive function, especially visual attention ability. Second, it is fun which could motivate driver to enjoy the training continuously to get better training effects. The in-vehicle game-based cognitive function training system helps elderly drivers rehabilitate the visual attention ability and expand the degree of useful field of view.
