Influence of tank-mix adjuvants on spray drift in wind tunnel

With the reduction of pesticides application and increase of ecological security awareness in China, more and more researches have directed to spray drift during chemical application. Some tank-mix adjuvants were used as anti-drift agents to reduce pesticide spray drift and maximize pesticide efficacy, while the effect of spray adjuvant is not yet well evaluated and implemented into drift mitigation scenarios. In order to study the effect of tank-mix adjuvants on spray drift reduction, droplet spectrum and drift potential index (DIX) in vertical and horizontal of four tank-mix adjuvants (AGE 809, ADE 701, AGE 825 and AGE852) manufactured by DE SANGOSSE (France) were tested by LU120-01 nozzle with a pressure of 0.3 MPa. The result showed the volume medium diameter of AGE 809, ADE 701, AGE 825 andAGE852 were I87.18fim, 201.47/im, 209.37ftmSqnd 204.63/im, respectively, significantly larger than that of water with 16l.l7ftm. The DIX of water was set as reference, then the airborne drift DIXv of AGE 809, ADE 701, AGE 852 and AGE 825 are 64.7%, 50.9% 61.7% and 58.6%, respectively; and the sediment drift DIXh of four anti-drift adjuvants are 69.5%, 66.4%, 70.6% and 74.2%. The numerical values of DIXh are larger than DIXv, while their evaluating effectiveness in anti-drift performance of adjuvants is consistent. Both airborne drift and sediment drift results indicated the four adjuvants could effectively reduce drift of spraying liquid, which are beneficial to pesticide reduction and increase of pesticide efficacy.
