Exosomes are extracellular vesicles released from cells, which contain in their membranes many ligands/receptors and membrane proteins, such as tetraspanins or major histocompatibility complex (MHC), that characterize the cell of origin. They can also carry various biomarkers depending on the type and state of the originating cell (proteins, mRNA, miRNA).
