A newly constructed numerical platform designed for simulating rarefied hypersonic flows is reported and several preliminary simulation results are illustrated in this paper. The present platform is constructed based on direct simulation Monte Carlo method, which is superior in reproducing the chemical reaction in the rarefied gas flow field. Variable soft sphere collision model and Stockmayer potential function are employed to mimic the particle collisions so as to determine the attractive and repulsive forces. The simulation results of a typical shock wave layer and the flow fields around a wedge and a blunt body in rarefied hypersonic flows are presented. According to which, typical thermochemical non-equilibrium flow features can be well demonstrated. This, although as the first step of our research towards rarefied hypersonic flows, makes our further research expectable.
