VALUABLE PRINCIPLES FOR EFFECTIVE PLANNING SCHEDULING: A HOLISTC APPROACH

Efficient Planning & Scheduling in times of "Industry 4.0" and "Smart Factory" gains of importance as the interaction between Machine, Material and Planning becomes more and more interweaved. A schedule for example must react on the status of the material and planning must consider current and planned machine status.A sophisticated APS supports the overall planning process by applying complex rules based on product and order mix, its production routings with corresponding processing and transport times and resource availability. Specific technologies as well as steel grade and energy related constraints are also considered to meet company specific KPIs.Horizontal integration of production from order entry through production to dispatch and shipping, even across plants into the vertical levels of planning, from long term horizon down to short term sequencing is the key to success. The pap'er describes three use cases for valuable planning & scheduling principles by the example of long products steel plant, ESP Endless Strip Production and MiniMill.
