The new 70-mgd Point of the Mountain Water Treatment Plant (POMWTP) was commissioned for the Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake & Sandy (MWDSLS) in August 2007. The POMWTP (Figure 1) is a conventional water treatment plant with enhanced processes of intermediate ozone and post-filtration UV disinfection. During the initial ozone system testing, ozone and oxygen gas inexplicably migrated back into an upstream channel not designed for ozone service. This presentation will highlight the underwater diver investigations and engineering creativity that were used to successfully identify the cause and remedy of this phenomenon.
