House Codes as a Form of Leisure Education in China's Cultural Tradition: A Study of 'House Codes', 'Admonitions to Women', and 'Womanly Work' in the Traditon of Benevolence-Centered Education in China

摘要

China was once known to the world as a "land of propriety and righteousness" that" venerates the teacher and emphasizes education". One reason for such a cultural milieu is because the Chinese benefited from leisure education with jiaxun, or house codes of behavior compiled by different families in various historical periods, as its cultural carrier. In particular, the benevolence-centered education was basis not only for the moral practice of the Chinese, but also for their leisure life.
