Thin Slab Caster Plant at Benxi Iron and Steel Group, P. R. of China

摘要

Benxi Iron and Steel group Co. (P.R.China) awarded in 2003 Danieli the order for its new casting plant for thin slab casters, made by two fTSC ( Flexible thin slab casters). The two casting lines, installed in two phases, have been successfully started up and put in operation in November 2004 (after only 20 months from contract signing) and in June 2005 respectively, allowing Benxi to produce up to 2.8 Mtpy of qualified thin slabs. The plant embodies all Danieli design innovative concepts allowing to expand original application of thin slab technology (originally confined to mainly commercial grades) to more sophisticated and demanding steels (such as peritectic, stainless and silicon steels) and in the same time, to strongly increase caster output. Only having fulfilled this goal, the thin slab casting and rolling process route can give the full advantages of low transformation cost and the possibility to target a wider range of market niches. In this paper, the main data of the plant and the results of the cast of sensitive grades, including Si steels, are described.
