Preliminary specifications for 100 Gigabit Optical Ethernet

摘要

This paper summarizes the work done on determining preliminary specifications for Ethernet at 100 Gigabit. A first set of tentative specifications based on previous work on 10 Gigabit Ethernet and simulation results is provided. These specifications are to be refined later in the project based on real measurements. Specifications will influence design of transmitter and receiver in the GIBON project respectively. Feedback on components target characteristics will in turn be used for refining the preliminary specifications provided. The paper also discusses Transmission impairments at high bitrates including Chromatic dispersion, Polarization mode dispersion and Non-Linear effects.
