We engage in an international standardization project for high-speed communication network performance over plastic and glass optical fibers: Technology integration for O-GEAR: Optical Gigabit Ethernet for Automotive aRchitecture with a financial support of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in Japan. We have supported IEEE 802.3bv physical layer specifications for Gigabit Ethernet over Plastic Optical Fiber (GEPOF). GEPOF became IEEE standard in 2017. Recently, progress has been obtained in ISO/TC22/SC31 and SC32, where automotive Gigabit Ethernet data communication and Gigabit Ethernet components with measurement method are discussed for standardization, respectively. We also demonstrate a future multi-gigabit transmission link system and components, where optical physical layer solution will have many advantages using graded-index multimode fiber. Recent progress of components and system for such ultrahigh bit-rate transmission will be also presented.
