This Thesis presents a detailed study about the various changes in performance of Local Area Network (LAN), Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) that were inevitable with the evolution of 10Gigabit and 100Gigabit Ethernet.; The transmission of data at the speed of a Gigabit per second over copper enhanced the performance of the network with respect to speed and it also eliminated the redesign cost. This is explained in detail with examples of fast growing organizations.; The implementation of Gigabit Ethernet increased the urge for more speed in the transmission of data and this gave rise to the evolution of 10 Gigabit Ethernet that transmits data 10 times faster as compared to Gigabit Ethernet.; Various coding techniques for Gigabit and 10Gigabit Ethernet were introduced but the selection criteria of each coding technique depended much on its performance and amount of overhead it added to the traffic.; For long distances, 10Gigabit Ethernet works only on fiber cable and the increase in the throughput is achieved with Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), a technique used to transmit large number of channels on a single fiber.; The success of 10Gigabit Ethernet in the performance tests carried out by various leading organizations gave rise to a new idea of transmitting data at a rate of 100Gigabit per second which required a two-stage coding of data to be transmitted and a different design of implementation which is explained in detail in the last section of the thesis.
