Critical Exponents of the Two Dimensional Melting

We studied the nonequilibrium behavior of the bond-orientational order parameter of the hard-disk system. The critical exponent eta is determined from the analysis of the fluctuation of the order parameter. We obtained η = 0.25(3), which support the prediction that the η = 1/4 in the KT transition. These results support the renormalization arguments that the value of η is 1/4 on the KT transition when the system has no degeneration. All the results obtained from nonequilibrium behavior show good agreement with the prediction of KTHNY theory.
